Color is everywhere but it wasn't until the late 1800s the first photograph was taken and today we take it for granted. Color plays a big role in photography as color can be used to create emotion or it can be distraction and take away from the composition. You will be wanting to use the color wheel to figure out complementary colors, monochromatic, traid, ect.
